Origami Bodi
If you’ve ever booked a massage and walked out wondering if it really helped—or why the pain keeps coming back—you’re not alone. Not all massage is the same. In fact, there’s a big difference between relaxation massage and medical massage, especially when it comes to healing chronic pain or restoring function in your body.
At Origami Bodi, I offer both types of bodywork, but they serve very different purposes. Understanding the difference helps you choose the right approach for your needs—whether you’re looking to unwind or truly heal.
Relaxation massage is your go-to when you need to de-stress, decompress, and reset your nervous system. It focuses on calming the body and mind through gentle, flowing techniques and a nurturing, spa-like environment.
What to expect:
Soft music and a calming atmosphere
Aromatherapy and warm oils or magnesium lotion
Cupping and hot stones for gentle circulation
Focus on soothing rather than deep pressure
Relaxation massage is ideal for you if:
You feel overwhelmed or anxious
You’re not sleeping well
You need time to relax and reconnect with your body
You’re looking for a general wellness boost
This type of session focuses on calming your stress response, enhancing circulation, and supporting emotional well-being. It’s one of the best ways to give your body permission to relax—but it’s not designed to target specific physical dysfunction.
Medical massage, on the other hand, is clinical, intentional, and results-driven. It’s focused on addressing the root cause of pain or dysfunction—not just making you feel better for the moment, but helping your body function better long term.
This approach uses specific techniques to target muscle imbalances, postural issues, fascial restrictions, nerve compression, and more. It is customized based on your symptoms, medical history, and the underlying dysfunctions I uncover during our intake.
What to expect:
A brief assessment or intake
Focused work on specific areas—not a full-body routine
Use of techniques like myofascial release, cupping, vibration therapy, or heat tools
Pressure tailored to your body’s needs and tolerance
A clear treatment goal based on your wellness concerns
Medical massage is ideal for you if:
You’re dealing with chronic pain or tension
You’ve tried other therapies with only temporary relief
You have old injuries or post-surgical scar tissue
You’re experiencing nerve symptoms, limited mobility, or referred pain
You’re managing conditions like sciatica, TMJ, migraines, low back pain, plantar fasciitis, or postural strain
This isn’t about “deep tissue” for the sake of pressure—it’s about functional healing and long-term change.
Here’s the big difference:
🧘♀️ Relaxation massage helps your body feel better
🧠 Medical massage helps your body function better
Both are important. And sometimes, you need both at different times in your healing journey.
I understand it’s hard to know what your body truly needs, especially when you’re in pain, exhausted, or burned out. That’s why I offer a full Wellness Consultation + Energetic Reboot for new clients. This includes an in-depth intake and support session to determine the best approach for you—whether that’s relaxing the nervous system, realigning the body, or addressing deeper issues at the root.
